Smeralda Trilogy at Costa Cruises Ship
Dream, courage, and the search for love: a three-part theatrical circus fantasy brought to life on one of the most spectacular stages at sea.
RocknLight was invited by Art Vision Production, the creative team of Aurelia Cats and Viktor Kee, to create all multimedia content for the Smeralda Trilogy: a theatrical circus production produced by Selection International Entertainment for Costa Cruises. The studio designed and produced the complete visual environment for the Colosseo theatre aboard the Costa Smeralda, where the Smeralda Trilogy has been running continuously since its premiere in 2020.
The Colosseo is the crown jewel of the Costa Smeralda: a state-of-the-art multimedia theatre that wraps its stage in screens on all sides, including a dome above the performing space. It is one of the most technically demanding show environments at sea — and it is here that the Smeralda Trilogy has been captivating audiences since 2020 with its romantic, underwater tale of Desire, Courage, and Love.
RocknLight created all multimedia content for the show's three twenty-minute episodes, designing a complete 360-degree visual world that surrounds the stage from every angle. The complex multi-screen setup required precise spatial composition and technically demanding rendering to ensure that every image reads correctly across the curved and domed surfaces of the theatre. The video decorations give each scene its own atmosphere: shifting colours, underwater landscapes, and animated environments that amplify the skill of the performers and deepen the emotional touch of every moment.
The visual design goes beyond decoration, visuals and actor's movements are interactive. Events that begin on stage continue on screen; characters drawn in animation step into the real world; and the video is synchronised precisely with the action, creating a seamless dialogue between the physical and the digital. The result is a show in which the boundary between stage and screen dissolves — and the myth of Smeralda feels entirely, breathtakingly real.
