Soundstorm Music Festival
Music brings us together: how an architectural projection mapping campaign on one of Riyadh's tallest buildings announced the Middle East's biggest electronic music festival.
RocknLight was approached by MD Films to create an architectural video mapping to announce Soundstorm 2021: the second edition of MDLBEAST's flagship electronic music festival in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The studio designed and produced the projection content that transformed one of the city's tallest buildings into a visual centrepiece for the festival's launch.
Soundstorm is the Middle East's largest electronic music festival: a four-day event held across a 5.3 square kilometre site in Riyadh, featuring eight stages, over 200 artists, and more than 730,000 attendees in its 2021 edition alone.
The announcement campaign needed to match that scale. RocknLight's architectural video mapping turned one of Riyadh's tallest buildings into a canvas for the festival's central idea: Music Brings Us Together. Hundreds of dancing figures gradually merged into a single unified figure, giving visual shape to the festival's core message. Geometric elements in the design echoed the architecture of the building itself, painting the urban facade in vivid colour and transforming it into something visible from multiple vantage points across the city.
The campaign culminated in a DJ set and light show on the rooftop of the building performed during the mapping show. It was one of the opening events of the festival season and set the tone for what became one of the most memorable electronic music experiences in the region.
