Immersive Disney at Lighthouse Artspace
From the first sketch to the final frame: how immersive technology opened a door into the timeless creative legacy of Disney.
RocknLight was approached by Lighthouse Immersive to create two distinct elements for the Immersive Disney Animation experience: the video content for the pre-show gallery, and the interactive floor setup for the main show space. The experience, produced in partnership with Walt Disney Animation Studios, has toured across the world since its debut in Toronto in December 2022.
Immersive Disney Animation is a one-hour 360-degree experience that takes audiences inside 47 films from the Walt Disney Animation Studios library: from the earliest groundbreaking features to beloved contemporary classics like Encanto, Frozen, and Moana. Produced by Lighthouse Immersive in partnership with Walt Disney Animation Studios, the experience was designed to bridge three generations of Disney fans in a single room.
RocknLight's first contribution was the video content for the pre-show gallery: an immersive space where visitors could explore the creative process behind Disney's most iconic films. The studio designed content that brought together original concept sketches from the Disney archives with finished film footage, showing how an animator's early idea evolved into a final masterpiece. The gallery also housed an interactive installation inviting children to draw their own versions of famous Disney characters, with RocknLight's wall projections displaying examples and inspiration to guide young artists.
The second challenge was more technically ambitious. For the main show space, RocknLight developed an interactive floor setup in collaboration with technology partner NV Pro. Special sensors tracked visitors' movements and responded in real time, changing the visual landscape beneath their feet as they walked through the space. To ensure the technology could be reliably deployed across multiple venues worldwide, RocknLight and NV Pro developed custom software and an adaptation system that could scale across different locations and floor configurations. The result was one of the most talked-about elements of the show, delighting children and adults alike.
With over six million tickets sold across its global tour, Immersive Disney Animation stands as one of the most successful immersive experiences ever produced. For RocknLight, it was a rare opportunity to work at the intersection of heritage and innovation: bringing one of the world's most beloved creative legacies to life through the tools of the future.
