Christmas Experience: House Of Mysterious M…
Magic hidden in every room: how projection mapping turned Kyiv's iconic House of Chimaeras into a living Christmas fairytale for over a thousand children.
RocknLight was invited by director Olena Kolyadenko to create the visual magic at the heart of The House of Mysterious M…, a charitable Christmas experience conceived and curated by First Lady Olena Zelenska. The studio designed and produced all projection content for the immersive installation, bringing enchantment to the walls, ceilings, and even furniture of one of Kyiv's most iconic buildings.
The House of Chimaeras is one of Kyiv's most extraordinary buildings: an Art Nouveau mansion covered in sculpted animals and mythical creatures. In December 2019, First Lady Olena Zelenska transformed it into something entirely new. For over a thousand socially vulnerable children aged 7 to 12, including orphans, children of fallen soldiers, and children with special needs, it became the House of Mysterious M... : an immersive Christmas detective quest in which the children themselves were the heroes.
RocknLight's role was to fill the house with visual magic. The studio created projections across the walls and ceilings of each room, bringing the interiors to life with festive Christmas imagery and animated characters. Magical paintings with living figures appeared within ornate frames, watching the children as they moved through the space. Two old wardrobes were transformed by projection mapping into mysterious portals, as if real magic had chosen them as its gateway into the house.
The experience was not a performance to be watched, but a world to be entered. Children moved from room to room, solving puzzles, following clues, and uncovering the secrets of the mysterious M alongside the story's characters. The projections did not simply decorate the space: they made it breathe, giving every room its own atmosphere and every moment its own sense of wonder.
